DARTMOUTH, NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA – July 30, 2019 – InterTalk has been awarded a contract with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) to upgrade their existing radio dispatch console system after successful pursuit of the project opportunity with PTC personnel.
InterTalk will provide the PTC with an IP-based, fully redundant Dispatch Console System consisting of 12 workstation dispatch console positons, 17 mobile laptop consoles, and replace the PTC’s existing analog logging recorder with InterTalk’s Transcript Archival Logging Recorder System.
Initially, InterTalk will integrate the console system with the existing PTC conventional radio systems, individual base radios, Intergraph CAD and VoIP telephony systems. Also of note, the console version that InterTalk will provide will have the ability to integrate with a P25 trunked radio system in the future, ensuring that the PTC does not need a forklift upgrade in the future to accommodate their digital radio system.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike was constructed between 1938 to 1940, and officially opened for service on October 1, 1940, the turnpike was developed with many new safety innovations for its time. This included considerations for driver safety/visibility in sunlight, and establishing the tool booths on a downhill grade to allow drivers time to react accordingly. Now, the Turnpike is equipped with cameras, sensors, the TRIP program, and more to ensure a safer experience for its many travelers. The PTC handles a massive volume of traffic on a daily basis: running the length of the state at 359 miles (578 km), the PTC handles over 210 million total vehicles per fiscal year — over 576,000 vehicles per day.
“InterTalk is particularly satisfied to earn a project with an agency that is such a rich piece of American history and innovation” said Jeff Kelly, Business Development for InterTalk. “We always felt that the PTC was a perfect customer fit for our product line’s capabilities, and they ultimately agreed. Being able to provide the PTC with the exact console and logging recorder solutions they wanted is very gratifying to us — we look forward to long-lasting partnership.”
The award is the latest in the government market for InterTalk, with this project scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020.
